I love getting the opportunity to hear details from an artist, don’t you? To marvel at the work, to embody the sensations of beauty that we behold through what they create, and to lose ourselves in wonder are cardinal reasons to experience art at all - but to hear directly from an artist about what they create and why, well it just gives the experience a whole new meaning.

When I first came across the work of Anette Pirso (@anetteprs on instagram), artist and maker of the 2021 Goddess Calendar, I felt an immediate desire to sit and speak with her about all things goddess. I noticed a common theme beyond her illustrations of divine deities, holy herbs and magical mushrooms to name a few - I noticed a desire to share. Anette is deeply passionate about the bringing back of the goddess, the unearthing of what has been hidden, shut down, demoted and erased. This has happened in mythology, its modern renditions through pop culture, and reflected too in our human world. The Gods and Goddesses show us who we are, especially as we tell and retell their stories over time. Anette is using her art to shed light on these truths, share the lesser known details of these deities, and challenge how we even view ourselves through the lens of these stories. I’m immensely honored to carry her 2021 Goddess Calendars here at SUNMOON, and to have had this chance to interview her. Watch and listen to all she has to share below:

“I believe that all of the goddesses come from one big source. That it’s all the same energy, but different aspects of the same energy. I believe that we also have all of that in ourselves, and they manifest according to whatever phase we’re going through in life, or situation or problem, or what we find to be most important.“
