Full Moon in Scorpio: Dreaming Our Way Home
Welcome to the Full Flower Moon - the final supermoon of the year.
The Scorpion is said to be The Shaman of the zodiac - the seer. Ruled by water, this sign is the keeper of dreams. Thanks to the stitching of subconscious dreamspace and conscious waking mind, we may journey to our truth with a little more safety; integrating what we glean from the night into day and filtering the moments of day into night. Swim in revelation. Pay attention to your dreams for the next few nights - they may hold some valuable lessons, particularly around the subtle dishonesty of harsh self reflection. This portal of awareness has brought my own harmful belief patterns to light. They started as survival tactics, but these tools have become old, broken, and dangerous. Ones that I’ve clung tightly to without even realizing it. There have been painful moments of peeling away freshly broken shell from my consciousness. How could I have been doing this to myself for so long, and how do I continue to unlearn this ugly pattern?
In feeling the Scorpionic wisdom beckoning me further into my emotions, I’ve been almost involuntarily delving into them. I’m asking myself questions such as: where did this habit come from? What did you not receive? How has trust been damaged for you? What do you need now? It’s a vulnerable process, but a necessary one. Remember in the Neverending Story when Atreyu has to face the Magic Mirror gate? Engywook says with a heavy face that most run away from it screaming (peep the video below). There may come a breaking point when it comes to self-discovery. In fact, it's almost guaranteed. A small and quiet snap on the inside. Did something break? Or did something click into place? Maybe probably definitely both.
One of the best and most gentle ways you can access some tender and anxious inner spaces is to establish what it means to be at home within yourself, and with where you live, too. Our physical homes are living beings, given life by our presence. They want to be seen and loved. Give your home some extra care through cleaning. Our minds are given space to unwind during these mundane moments. Offer this time as a ritual; a moving meditation. Don’t just sweep, but get into the corners that are often forgotten. Wipe down the smaller crevices of the sink and floors. Cleaning means slow and gentle strokes, with intentional energy. If you act too fast, you kick up dirt and accomplish less than if you decidedly treated the process with patience. Feel the relief of your living space from these actions. Now, how will you offer this same expression to yourself?Engage in a bathing ritual before sleep if you’re able. Spend some time saying thank you to your body. It is the first and final keeper of every emotion, intention, desire and memory you’ll ever hold.
Suppression of our feelings leads to explosions, implosions, caving in or bubbling over. The results are felt emotionally, physically, and energetically. Where do you hold your emotions? How does it feel to acknowledge them? To acknowledge yourself? Maybe part of you can find a little satisfaction in this process, breathing through the sudden jumps and starts of adjustment. Talk to some trusted friends and family. Talk to a therapist. I’ve been shocked at the relief granted from Zoom meetings, FaceTime hangs, postcard exchanges, and even a simple phone call (remember what a phone used to be for?). One-on-one dialogues and intimate conversation do a lot to unearth the subtle. Journaling is also a wildly powerful outlet of self-acknowledgement and understanding.
There is discomfort in discovery, followed by understanding and release. Surrender to it. Allow yourself to be effected from skin to soul by the medicine of the scorpions sting. This is a time of deep epiphany. Ah-ha moments may come on strong, causing spikes in our responses. Keep yourself in check, and listen to your feelings. If you do happen to overreact or have recently, own it and learn from it. This is a great opportunity to mend, and make amends. The key to this moment is self-witnessing through compassion. Everyone is feeling it right now; it should be no surprise that you might need some extra kindness, especially from yourself first.
