NEW MOON MEDITATION: The Wild Waters Within
NEW MOON in CANCER
A meditation on our wild waters within.
Who are you? Who have you been, and who will you become?
This new moon in watery Cancer paired with the solar eclipse (also in Cancer) provides a chaotic stage.
Imagine this:
You are standing outside on a solid platform, but the ground is moving. Keeping your balance is difficult as you try to look around at the items that clutter the floor. Most of what you see remind you of your past. Talismans of a time long gone, or perhaps not too distant - and some of them you don't recognize at all, but they feel somehow so familiar. If only the ground would stop tilting back and forth beneath your feet, you could perhaps grasp something, anything.
The floor is made of long wooden planks, hot from the summer sun. Your feet burn. You begin to move them to get cool - and as you do, you look up and out. You are not on the ground - you're on a ship. The ocean rocks you, and as you recognize yourself in the vastness of the ocean, a calm wave washes over you. Eyes close, then open. The sun is replaced by a moonless night sky. The waves crash and whisper in the emptiness, offering a strange comfort amidst a course through the unknown.
The past meets the present, and the present reaches for the future. During this time of the New Moon, there is a surge of energy. Where there once may have been gentle lapping waves, there are now blinding, deafening floods of water. This source that once cooled in the heat now threatens to envelop and alarm- or if you are willing to meet it, walking through the fear of facing your full Self, it can heal you within the salt-water womb of the Divine.
Our bodies reflect the natural world; estuaries of water and salt course through us as veins and arteries. Lightning flashes with every brain synapse, and through every dream. The earth moves slowly as muscles and skin. Air keeps us afloat, supporting our spine and bones. Our inner fire burns, and keeps the flame of life burning within us and around us. We are impossibly vast and invisibly small all at once, just as the earths elements are. Just as life is.

This New Moon will not support rigidity. Life is not rigid. We see this through the timing of the tides - with loose predictability, never fully reliable. There are surprise swells, or long periods of calm when we least anticipate it. The truth is, the ocean does what it needs in a given moment. It always arrives on time, because it keeps its own pace.
How can we do this in our lives? How do we honor the measure of our individual stride?
Let's return to the ship, swaying in the dark seas.
The rain begins. The waves crest and climb towards us as heavy shadows. You're not alone - you are with yourself. At the wheel, there is a figure shrouded in the black protection of night. With many arms outreached grasping the wheel with gentle strength, they smile, and you feel safe. Can you see their smile, or just feel it? The chaotic matter that clutters the floorboards are gulped away as they each tip below deck, falling through the lattice of the past and future. The one who steers the ship - it is you. Your divine feminine. Your guide through this dark night.
This is an incredibly potent time to listen to your dreams. Keep a journal near your bed, and try to reach for your pen and not your phone upon waking. Ancestors, guides, and future incarnations speak to us through dreams, and often during these large lunar events, they are most present and ready to offer their wisdom. Before falling asleep, splash some water on your face, take a salt bath, or rinse in the shower to initiate your respects and connectivity to the element of water. Water is a conduit, and will act as such between these sacred selves of yours, and your dreams. Do your best to be mindful during this time, not to get lost in the emotional madness.
Trust that the moon is there, even when it cannot be seen.
