New Moon in Libra: Give + Take
New Moon in Libra
“it takes strength to be gentle and kind.” — The Smiths
Witches believe that what you send out you will receive threefold. What does this mean?
✳ Cracks knuckles. Takes deep breath. Thanks the God and Goddess. ✳
Let’s talk about it. What energy do you present with? What do you feel in your heart? Do they match up? I’m not talking about how many dollars you hand out, or what nice ideas you discuss. This is about what you value, what you cherish, and how you enact these values. What do you bring to the world? You’re here. You’re alive. That cannot be overlooked or forgotten. What do you give? Do you allow yourself to receive? There cannot be one without the other, despite how good you want to be, or how selfless you imagine yourself. What we’ve somehow forgotten is the importance of the cycle of giving and receiving. Some of us only want to give, unclear on how to receive, and lost in guilt over something as simple and a compliment. Some of us want only to receive, feeling we have been wronged by others or society, and that it’s now our duty to take without reciprocation. These moments of extremes do exist in healthy balance, though only within a flow of reciprocity.
Now that that’s out of the way - let’s look back at this threefold rule. You don’t have to be a witch to think that what you put out is what you get back. It is almost guaranteed that if you’re able to hack the societal norms and tap into that give-take balance, living in true reciprocity, you will only receive clear and necessary lessons, as well as blessings. Sometimes things don’t seem clear, and that’s normal. We’re currently entering a profound gateway of translation. This New Moon brings our awareness directly towards the meaning of things. If we want very clear dialogue with the divine, now is a great time to begin journaling regularly. Once you put pen to paper (and I really recommend writing by hand), you may find that the pen takes on a new personality. You’re always the one writing, but a deeper self is able to emerge. A part of you that is directly linked to the great big conjoined golden spirit energy that we all share. You can actually develop a pen-pal relationship with yourself, and much like the letter you wrote once in 4th grade to a kid in France, fully ready to learn a brand new language, it can and will work - it just requires serious follow through. Do it now. Write it, give it, receive it.
I often get edgy about writing because it can feel so incredibly vulnerable. What if I write something really personal?? Oh no! Actually, this is the point. You get more and more personal with yourself. You understand a whole new version of who you wish to be, and then slowly begin embodying that person. I often burn what I write, or shred and recycle. This can be done passively, or depending on what you write, you can create ceremony out of it. Cast yourself a sweet little circle, give thanks to the elements that love you so much - water, fire, earth, air - give yourself a moment of quietude to thank your guides and ancestors, even if you don’t know who or what they are. They love you. Remember, take time to receive and give. This is a moment of both. In fact, that’s what real love is. The flow, weaving through the liminal spaces, back to the superficial and back again without exhaustion or end.
Creative tension is so, so normal. You’re not made to simply jump into the sea and know how to swim. Take your time with these processes, and invite others to join in. Because once you peel back the layers, you’ll find what you knew all along. This work is a birthright, and is within us at all times. We just have to allow unlearning as we learn anew. Give and take. This could be a really fulfilling circle of connectivity, writing to and from yourself, but supported through the individuals we hold so dear in our lives, in the here and now. This kind of collective is but a text away. Start small if that helps, reaching out to one or two friends. Here’s an example text:
Hey y’all, I’m celebrating the New Moon and would love to invite you for a pen-pal session with our deeper selves. Let’s have coffee or tea, catch up, and take time to write to ourselves for a little while. Hope you can make it, love you guys.
I believe in you so much. Breathe and drink in the lessons of this dark moon.
